Papel Picados are more commonly known as decorations for Dia de los Muertos, but they are used for all celebrations. Different combinations of colors are used for different holidays, for example, orange, pink, and purple are usually used for Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The papel picados represent the wind and fragility of life, and when used as an offering, if they rustle, it means that a spirit has arrived to your altar. Papel picados usually depict skulls and skeletons doing everyday things and are strung together and hung where it fits.
